General So when you look at Olivia it is very obvious that she is her daddy’s girl so I thought I should shed some light on what she and mom have in common. Some of the traits are good and some are not so good. First of all in the looks as of right now her eyes appear to be blue. She also has detached ear lobes just like me. Olivia has also had some trouble with plugged tear ducts and she is pretty spitty. Both of those lovely things my mother reports I struggled with when I was a baby. In terms of her personality she is a morning person all the way, definitely not something from her daddy. So Andy may be able to claim 90% but there is my 10%

General Joel flew in on Monday night and was here until Thursday morning. It was great to see him and have his help while we were enjoying Olivia. In between cooking deconstructed guacamole and pizza, and working on chores around the house he was able to have a little fun here. There was “this is the dumbest game” of spades, a dangerous game of four square, and even part of a movie. We even had a chance to reminisce and swim a bit. Life is good and Joel helped make it a little better.

General So now life has drastically changed. Everyone said that it would and I know that it would but knowing it will change and experiencing it are completely different things. First of all I truly didn’t think that I would need help, but man was a wrong. Our house was beginning to look like a tornado hit it. Then my mother arrived. Wow what help between her and our friend Joel from MN the place now looks livable again. Grandma has done everything from cook and clean to changing dirty diapers and getting up with Olivia and I in the middle of the night. It is amazing to watch Olivia grow and change. She looks to me like she is at least twice as big as when she came home from the hospital (of course she is not that big.) I am curious to see what she weighs at her 2-week check up on Monday. There is one outfit that she has already outgrown:( She is now smiling, has managed to survive a couple of diaper changes without crying, and even made it through most of a bath without crying. Life just keeps on getting better and better!

Baby Hermanson It’s amazing how God works his magic. Yesterday morning was extremely difficult for both Miriam and I. Olivia wasn’t eating and hadn’t fed for more than 5 min over 12hrs. We were both very concerned but we were soon taken care of as we had calls from the lactation specialists and Miriam’s mom found a ticket to come see us for $245. What a blessing. After 1pm the day was better and both Miriam and I were at ease.

Baby Hermanson When people have said that the first weeks aren’t always easy….they weren’t kidding. Last night and today have been quite difficult just trying to figure out how to make Olivia happy. Even after we have checked all the usual things (feeding, dirty diaper, warmth) she still cries, and cries, and cries. I don’t want to miss these times, but at times like this, I wish I could miss them.

It’s official Olivia Marie Hermanson was born on Sunday Feb 11th at 3:29pm. She is a big baby at 8lbs 12oz and 21inches in length. She has daddy’s long black hair, eyes, and eyelashes but mom’s eyebrows and chin. Miriam did a great job and was able to do the whole labor with only one drug that only lasted an hour and didn’t really affect her in any way. The nurses say she is one of the best they have seen in recovery. I am blessed to have such a strong wife. Photos have been uploaded and can be seen in the photos gallery. |

Baby Hermanson This morning Miriam began her contractions at 3am, we went to the hospital at 6:30am, were sent home at 8am and are now waiting at home for the contractions to be stronger and more consistant. We are excited that the time is coming near. At least we know that we have only 24hrs left for sure. We will keep you posted!

Baby Hermanson Well it has been an exciting last 3 weeks. Recently Miriam has been having some minor contractions the bulk of which happened on Super Bowl Sunday. They come and go but so far it has been difficult to time as they aren’t severe enough to tell when they begin and end. Miriam saw the doctor on Monday and at that point she was 3cm dilated and 80% effaced (Cervix thinning). The doctor thought it would happen Tues or Wed.
Am I excited…..You Bet!
